Bisque firing

The last few days have been very busy as I have completed many pieces and have bisque fired them. Bisque firing means that the pieces have been fired to cone 04 temperature in a kiln to completely dry them. They are now ready for glazing (decorating and painting with materials which can make them food safe and water tight.)

Here are a few pieces that have been bisque fired.

New pottey pieces going up

I am working on glazing and firing wheel thrown pieces and getting them up on the etsy site. There are bowls, plates, cups - a wide assortment. Be sure to keep a lookout for the spring collection.

Welcome

Welcome to the Mud Dauber Nest! Mud Dauber, aka Dirt Dabbers, use clay to build their homes and I have a studio to work with ceramics and pottery which has become my "nest" to create items for homes and gardens.

After I retired from the corporate world, I found a pottery workshop which I had always wanted to do. Two months later I was enrolled in Ceramic Classes in the Fine Arts Department at the local university and I was on my way to a new creative outlet. Before long, I had my own kiln, pottery wheel, slab roller and a whole "nest" of materials to explore my new passion.

I am still developing my own style, but I love the textures and colors that can be created using different materials and glazes. I sometimes am in the mood for pure and simple while other times I may create something more whimsical, but all my pieces are functional. Come by and visit often as I explore ceramics.
